FACING last season’s premiers, the Casey Comets failed to perform to their potential in a 1-3 loss on Friday night.
In their round three Women’s Premier League clash, Box Hill overwhelmed Casey’s defences, with coach Ian Williamson left bemused and disheartened by his team’s lack of game-plan execution.
Annie Remman scored just after the main-break to level proceedings, following Box Hill’s score approaching the half from Elaina Vatcky.
Casey couldn’t claim many other highlights as the home side drilled two more goals to finish the Comets’ hopes and leave them embarrassed with a two-goal loss.
Williamson was blunt about his charges’ performance – or lack thereof.
“Very disappointed with our performance,” Williamson said.
“We didn’t come and activate our game plan at all.
“Because we’re a work in progress with a fairly young team, we just didn’t implement our plan to the best of our ability.
“Didn’t close down the ball, not enough pressure on the ball, our passing game wasn’t up to scratch and for all those things we did well pre-season, we didn’t put any shots on targets.”
With highlights few and far between, Williamson said 15-year-old defender Rachael Billing was a standout in her second WPL match, while Laura Croft and Remman also won their positions.
Pointing the barrel at his fullbacks – Williamson was displeased with the application of Elsie Hibbert and Naomi Eaton and demanded more of the experienced pair.
“Disappointed with my two full backs – didn’t think they applied themselves well enough to the circumstances,” Williamson said.
“Elise Hibbert and Naomi Eaton – two girls who’ve been performing very well for me all season were disappointing in their application.”
Despite the poor showing, Williamson was convinced things would turn around this week against Altona City at home.
