Bright spark

PARTS of Narre Warren South and Cranbourne were plunged into darkness for about an hour last week when an overhead conductor shortcircuited.
Witnesses said the electricity pulsated for a few minutes on Narre Warren – Cranbourne Road near Galloway Drive before the area was fully blacked out last Wednesday week.
Local residents were treated to a 10-minute spark show before it went out.
An SP AustNet spokeswoman said a pollution and dust build-up caused an overhead conductor to fail.
That resulted in the power outage that affected almost 5000 customers.
“Our crews raced to the scene and were able to restore power to a majority of customers within half an hour as soon as the situation was made safe and switching could occur,” she said.
“The remaining affected customers were off until 8.30pm whilst essential repairs were undertaken.
“We thank the community for their patience and for calling our faults hotline,” the spokeswoman said.
