PARKING control signs will now be installed at a chaotic stretch of road in Narre Warren North to avoid traffic congestion near a mental health facility and a school bus stop.
The control signs will be implemented as an interim measure at Memorial Drive outside the Narre Warren Adult PARC facility, instead of moving the bus stop up the road, a move previously being considered by council.
The decision to install the parking signs was carried by council earlier this month, with Cr Rosalie Crestani having brought the congestion issue to the City of Casey in March.
She said she expected the parking signs to be installed in roughly a month.
“It will ensure that the school children have somewhere to stand uninhibited by parked cars and access to the bus,” Cr Crestani said.
“Although it may reduce parking capacity at those brief times for the PARC facility, it is only a short-term occurrence.”
Cr Crestani said it was unlikely that the bus stop would now be moved, as consultation with Public Transport Victoria and PARCS proved it was in the “most efficient” location.
“Investigation into this location has offered a surprising and positive outcome in that it will formalise parking at this facility and ’clean up’ the visual streetscape,” she said.
