Toy guns play risky game

POLICE say two men who were firing a toy cap gun are lucky not to have been shot.
Officers were called to Hampton Park Shopping Centre on Sunday night at 11pm after receiving calls from drivers who thought they were being fired on.
Endeavour Hills Police also received several reports of gunshots being fired in the area.
On arrival to the shopping centre, police reported hearing what sounded like gunfire and contained the area.
Two men were located in the back of a delivery van shooting toy cap guns in Summerville Road, Hampton Park.
Sergeant John Blackburn said that the men were lucky that Sergeant Mick Sheers, who coordinated the assignment, had realised that the ‘shots’ that were heard were not real gun shots.
“Had Sergeant Sheers not realised that the shots heard were from cap guns the men could have been confronted with police with a very different outcome,” Sergeant Blackburn said. The men were not charged and police said the men did not mean to cause a disturbance.
