Charged over axe attack

A Clyde North man has been charged with attempted murder after an alleged axe attack on a woman at Fountain Gate shopping centre on 27 March.
The 45-year-old man was accused of striking the woman multiple times with the axe at the shopping centre in Narre Warren just after 10am.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the man was charged by Casey CIU detectives with attempted murder and other assault-related charges.
The accused was refused bail at an out-of-sessions hearing at Narre Warren police station that night.
He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28 March.
