Council honours volunteers

THIS year’s Casey Community Volunteer Award winners were announced at a ceremony on Friday 9 May at the Balla Balla Centre in Cranbourne.
The evening highlighted the diverse range of the volunteers in Casey who helped strengthen the community by giving their time and talents in a multitude of volunteering roles.
This year, the council received 68 nominations over the six categories, including family and community support, sport and recreation, arts and cultural activities, environment and conservation, young volunteer and the innovation award.
The Family and Community Support Award went to Tricia McGill while Bob Sewell took home the Sport and Recreation Award.
Berwick Artists Society’s Tony Purcell won the Arts and Cultural Activities Award and the Environment and Conservation Award went to Kathey Blackmont.
The Young Volunteer Award was presented to 20-year-old Jade Wynne and the Innovation Award went to the Friends of Frog Hollow Inc for its approach in allowing volunteers to have a casual involvement in the group’s projects.
The Highly Commended Certificate went to Kate Luxford for her contribution to emergency services.
