School traffic mayhem

Berwick mum Jenny Steer leaves her driveway at 8.10am to drop her children off at Kambrya College and Berwick Fields Primary School and doesn’t return home until 9am. She lives only two kilometres from the schools.

“It would usually only take me two minutes but in peak hour it can take me almost an hour,” she said.

“There are around seven schools within a five kilometre radius and the roads are only narrow.”

Ms Steer has been doing school runs for nine years.

“The car park situation has stayed the same. It’s the traffic around the streets that have gotten worse and you have to leave a lot earlier to get anywhere,” she said.

“It’s taking longer to manoeuvre the streets. I’m always looking for short cuts off the main streets.”

Berwick mum Paula French said she has been parents parked out the front of the school ready to pick their children up at lunchtime.

“The trucks need to avoid Centre Road during school pick up and drop off time,” Ms French said.

“My side mirror was hit by another parent’s vehicle. She tried to move over to avoid a tuck and had no choice but to hit my car.”
