$34 million investment for Narre Warren police

A 24 hour police facility could be built in Narre Warren if the Labor Government is re-elected in the state election.

Labor will invest $34 million to build a brand new police station on a new site that is highly visible, more accessible to the community and better suits operational needs.

This will include scoping land opportunities in and around the commercial centre of Narre Warren, and on major roads that provide better access for police vehicles.

There is also scope to consider how other divisional resources and the divisional headquarters could be accommodated at the new Narre Warren station – including co-locating Crime Investigation, Crime Scene, Intelligence and Highway Patrol units as well as Police Custody Officers and Transit PSOs.

Construction of the new station is due for completion in 2022.

“Only Labor will build a new 24 hour, state-of-the-art facility in Narre Warren to give police officers the facilities they need to drive down crime and keep the community safe,” Minister for Police Lisa Neville said.

“This is about listening to Victoria Police and giving them the modern facilities they need, as well as the powers, resources and tools they need to keep Victorians safe.”

Member for Narre Warren North Luke Donnellan said the new station will give local police the facilities they need to continue to provide an outstanding service to the community.

This project builds on the Labor Government’s investment of more than $200 million in police infrastructure, replacing or refurbishing 35 metropolitan and regional police stations and 10 police residences.

As part of this, Labor is delivering an extra 96 police officers across the Dandenong Division which covers Narre Warren.

“With so many new officers, police in Narre Warren have outgrown their old station – and only Labor will deliver a new one,” Labor candidate for Narre Warren South Gary Maas said.
