Learning centre unites

English language students at the Narre Waaren Foundation Learning Centre have united in sharing the joy of harmony on Tuesday 19 March.

This year students and staff wore beautiful, traditional dresses from their cultural backgrounds to celebrate Harmony Day.

A multicultural lunch was prepared by students while the training room was decorated with balloons, streamers and cut-outs of people wearing traditional clothing from different countries.

They also learnt Australian songs including ‘We are Australian,’ and ‘Waltzing Matilda.’

Students participated in fun learning activities focussed on Harmony Day and general knowledge of different countries.

“It’s such an enjoyable way of learning about and celebrating the diversity of our students’ cultural backgrounds,” literacy coordinator/compliance assistant Clea Nicol said.

“We’re able to effectively uphold values such as respect and acceptance.”

On student said: “I enjoyed our Harmony Day very much. I ate many dishes from different countries. We celebrated just like a family.”
