MORE than 40 local community leaders attended a briefing to hear first-hand about the key projects, initiatives and services included in the City of Casey’s 2008-09 budget.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall hosted the briefing and council representatives were at hand to answer specific questions about the budget.
Cr Halsall said the $189 million budget allowed council to deliver first-class services and infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing community.
“Council has carefully planned the budget over the past six months. We are pleased to present it to the community and to reinforce that Casey ratepayers will continue to pay one of the lowest rates in Melbourne,” she said.
In 2007-08, of Melbourne’s 31 metropolitan councils, Casey had the third lowest rates on a per capita basis.
The community leaders were walked through the budget, including $147 million to deliver a broad range of council services and $42 million for the capital works program, including the final $9.4 million to complete the Cranbourne Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
“The community leaders were happy to hear about the work taking place in Casey over the next year and were very positive about growth for Casey’s future,” Cr Halsall said.
