20 years of riding the bounds

THIS year marks the 20th anniversary of the annual Riding of the Bounds event.
The community will get the opportunity to take part in the age-old event on Sunday 17 August that starts and finishes at Berwick’s Akoonah Park.
It goes around Berwick and Harkaway, with registrations from 8am for a 10am starting.
Last year’s event attracted more than 230 riders and horse-drawn vehicles. The 15km course takes around two and a half hours to complete and is open to riders of all levels.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall said she was excited to be taking part in the event this year.
“This historic event dates back more than 550 years, and I am proud to be taking part in the 20th anniversary of the ride in Berwick,” she said.
During the ride, the riders will inspect the boundaries of the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire and will have opportunity to discover private local properties.
There will be six prizes awarded on the day and they include the champion rider, mayor’s choice, best presented group, best horse drawn vehicle, most Australian rider and the best western turnout.
Registration costs $15 for individuals, $30 for a family of four and $65 for a group of 10.
An official awards ceremony will also take place at the end of the event.
