JAMES Cook Primary School has a new principal.
Kathryn Sharp joined the school at the start of term three, after Marilyn Whitmore retired from the role.
Despite only being in the chair for five weeks, Ms Sharp has plans for the future of the school.
“It’s already a great school, so we would like to continue that strength and provide even more opportunities for students to be the best they can be,” she said.
“Community is an important part of this school. Teachers, parents and students, and all community members, need to feel that the school is a friendly and open place to be.”
Ms Sharp brings 21 years education experience to the Endeavour Hills School, with the last five spent as assistant and acting principal at Upper Beaconsfield Primary School.
When not at school, Ms Sharp is an avid softball player.
She has played with the Waverley Women’s Softball Association for 30 years, and has represented Geelong in the Softball Masters Tournament.
Softball, and all aspects of health and physical education, form an important part of the school’s curriculum.
The school is part of the Victorian Government’s Go for your life program, and offers free fruit to students once a week.
“It’s pretty healthy,” Ms Sharp said.
