Grants help restore memorials

COMMUNITY organisations in the City of Casey are being urged to apply for the Restoring Community War Memorials grants program.
Casey MP Gordon Rich-Phillips said the grants, which are available to Victorian ex-service organisations, local councils, schools and community groups, offer up to $10,000 to assist in preservation, restoration and enhancement of treasured local war memorials and honour rolls.
“The grant money can be used to repair broken statues, rectify sinking foundations, re-letter honour rolls, and install additional plaques and explanatory walls to provide a historical context about the memorial and its place in the community,” he said.
“War memorials are an expression of the respect and gratitude that the community pays to those who showed courage and commitment to defend our nation. It gives tribute to their heroism and their resilience during periods of conflict.”
Applications will close on 16 February 2009.
They can be obtained online by visiting www.grants.dpcd.vic.gov.au.
For more information, call Gordon Rich-Phillips on 9794 7667.
