NEW Casey mayor Geoff Ablett will host civic receptions to recognise the efforts of former councillors Rob Wilson and Mick Morland.
The receptions will give Mr Wilson and Mr Morland an opportunity to invite around 100 guests each including family, friends and local government and community groups and members.
The idea was raised by River Gum Ward councillor Wayne Smith at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Cr Smith said that separate receptions should be held for the ex-councillors due to their involvement with different community groups and organisations.
“They have more than 40 years of local government service between the two of them,” he said.
Mayfield Ward councillor Kevin Bradford took it one step further by adding a further motion that council create a policy that determines when former councillors are acknowledged for their service to the City of Casey by way of a civic reception.
“In the past we’ve held the receptions for some ex-councillors but not all. We need a consistent formula,” he said.
Cr Smith supported that a report be presented to council outlining the possible policy.
