Awards for healthy kids

EARLY childhood centres in the City of Casey are celebrating after receiving Kids – ‘Go for your life’ awards.
The awards, which promote healthy eating and physical activity, have been presented to the La Kosta Childcare Centre in Hampton Park, Verdun Drive Children’s Centre in Narre Warren, Nadia Child Minding Centre and Kindergarten in Berwick, Rangebank Preschool in Cranbourne and James Cook Kindergarten in Endeavour Hills.
The Kids – ‘Go for your life’ program, funded by the State Government and managed by Diabetes Australia – Victoria and the Cancer Council Victoria, promotes six key messages such as tap into water every day; plant fruit and vegetables in your lunchbox; limit ‘sometimes’ foods; move, play and go; turn off, switch to play; and stride and ride.
The City of Casey’s acting manager for community care and health promotion May Hassan said the five centres to be presented with the award were among 78 schools and early childhood services in Casey that had adopted the program.
