The City of Casey is helping local fitness trainers get back to work sooner by trialling a new program to help them operate from council reserves.
Co-designed between council and the Victorian Government via the Automatic Approvals program, Casey’s Skip the Permit is a pilot program removes the need for fitness training businesses to obtain a permit to use council reserves.
Eligible fitness training businesses will need to submit an online notification to council before using the reserves.
The program will take place across selected Casey sites and the streamlined notification system will enable businesses to upload insurance certificates and advise council of their participation.
Once all required documents are submitted, businesses can begin using the reserves immediately.
The opportunity to participate in this trial reinforces the City of Casey’s commitment to support local businesses and enhance economic activity post 2021 lockdowns.
City of Casey’s chair of administrators Noelene Duff PSM was pleased to see council taking action to make Casey an easier place to do business.
“Aside from the obvious health and wellbeing benefits for our residents, providing an easier way for fitness training businesses to get back up and running is common sense,” she said.
“Casey is proud to be a sector leader in trialling initiatives that, if successful, can be rolled out more broadly across Victoria.
“We are committed to providing a meaningful response to supporting our local business community as they emerge from the impacts of Covid-19.
“This trial is the latest in a range of reform initiatives that council is exploring to make it easier to do business in Casey.”
Skip the Permit is being trialled in a select range of council reserves and is available for Casey-based fitness training businesses.
The trial will take place for a limited period with a review and evaluation completed at its conclusion to determine if the program will be implemented on a permanent basis.
