High speed chase

POLICE were on the hunt on Tuesday night after a stolen Ford XR8 ute took off at high speed from an industrial area off Clyde Road in Berwick.
The pursuit, which began about 3.15am, lasted thirteen minutes and reached speeds up to 165km/h before the ute finally pulled over in Ballarto Road Cardinia.
The driver, a 31-year-old Seaford man, and his 21-year-old female passenger from Cheltenham were arrested and are assisting police with their inquiries.
Acting Sergeant Duncan Bartley from the Endeavour Hills police station yesterday (Wednesday) praised his members for the way they handled the incident.
“It was a great result with two people arrested for some pretty serious offences, and more importantly nobody ended up getting hurt,” he said.
“We had a fairly junior crew on and it’s a credit to them the way they kept their composure under extremely intense circumstances and got the job done.”
The driver is expected to be charged with a number of criminal and traffic offences including theft of a motor car, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, possessing a drug of dependence and evading police.
He was set to face the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
