Best in the business

THE Faculty of Business and Economics celebrated the success of its undergraduate students with an awards night at Monash University in Berwick last week.
Forty awards sponsored by local businesses were presented to the students during the event, which is now in its 10th year.
The awards recognised academic performance in 2009.
Second-year marketing major Emma Cairns from Cranbourne said she was delighted to win the top student in principles of accounting and finance.
She said the key to her success was the support she had from her tutors.
“The best thing is having great tutors and being able to discuss concepts with them regularly to make sure you’re on top of things,” she said.
Former Melbourne Football Club captain David Neitz, who attended the event, encouraged the award recipients to invest in their future and continue to strive for their goals despite any disappointment or pressure they encountered.
Partnerships with local businesses and councils has formed a part of the industry-driven Bachelor of Business and Commerce, which is offered at the campus, with many taking part in the work-integrated-learning (WIL) program.
The program, introduced two years ago, pairs businesses with third-year students to put their studies in the classroom into practice.
“We’re really proud of our graduates that we have sent out into the workforce or on to further study and will continue to develop programs that will equip our students for the future,” Berwick Faculty of Business and Economics head of department Associate Professor Lionel Frost said.
