CASEY residents are encouraged to nominate outstanding seniors in the community for the 2010 Victorian Senior of the Year Awards.
Minister for Senior Victorians Lisa Neville is inviting community members, organisations and local councils to nominate seniors who have made a difference in their community.
“Senior Victorians give so much to our state and the Victorian Senior of the Year awards provide us with an opportunity to recognise these efforts,” Ms Neville said.
“If you know someone whose extraordinary commitment, energy and passion is truly inspirational – whether it be as a teacher or mentor, volunteer firefighter, community advocate or environmental champion – then I urge you to nominate them for an award.”
To be eligible for an award, nominees must be over the age of 60, an Australian citizen, a resident of Victoria and have made an exceptional contribution to their community. Award categories include the Premier’s award for Victorian Senior of the Year, Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria senior achiever awards, Go For Your Life award and the veteran community award.
Nominations close Friday 23 July.
Nomination forms are available at www.seniors.vic.gov.au or from Seniors Information Victoria by calling 1300 135 090.
