AFTER a slow start Doveton seniors held Beaconsfield goalless in the last quarter to register a strong 19-point win in damp conditions on Saturday.
At the end of the first quarter Beaconsfield held a four-point lead.
As the conditions got worse, the Doves seemed to get better and held an eight-point lead at half-time.
The second half saw the Doves miss some golden opportunities and give Beaconsfield a chance at victory.
However the Doves came back in the last quarter.
Shannon Clarke showed his determination by shutting down playmaker Daniel Misliki and also giving the Doves plenty of forward drive.
In defence, Ricky Hayes proved too strong showing his marking ability with the wet ball.
Up forward Ryan Brown was back to his best taking some strong grabs and finishing with three goals.

Doveton was looking to find some form after an up-and-down month and they did so with a nine-point win over Beaconsfield.
The Doves started strongly with three first-quarter goals and taking a valuable nine-point lead into the first break.
This proved to be the difference as conditions worsened.
The Doves held their opponent goalless after quarter time and managed only one more goal that came in the third term.
Big men Michael Rodriquez and Ben Anderson shared the ruck duties and both played great games. They gave the small men first use and continually worked the ball forward for the Doves.
Goals were hard to come by and the Doves had four individual goal scorers with Pete Dye, Dale Kilpatrick, Damien Cameron and Michael Davies each kicking one.

Doveton faced the undefeated Beaconsfield and missed the chance to go to outright second – losing by one point.
In an excellent game of football, the Doves started with confidence taking a slight lead into quarter time.
In the second quarter the Doves stopped their run and this cost them the lead and the momentum in a very physical game.
The second half saw the lead change several times with the last quarter turning into a rugby match and the Doves unable to get one last score.
Matt Stocco was best, showing everyone how to play wet-weather football. He kicked two goals and kept the Doves in the game in the last quarter.
Kory Grant also played a great game, laying several hard tackles and giving the Doves drive into the forward line.
