Extradited man in court over car thefts

By Rebecca Fraser
POLICE have extradited a Hampton Park man from Queensland after his disappearance sparked a nationwide manhunt earlier this year.
Scott Harris appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last Friday charged with theft of a motor car, four counts of theft and four of obtaining property by deception.
The 36-year-old was also charged with opening a false account under the Australian Finance Transactions Report Act.
He was not required to plead.
Most charges relate to the time Mr Harris spent working at Hallam-based company NOS computers and date back to January this year.
The News first reported Mr Harris’ disappearance earlier this month when Narre Warren police issued a photograph and called for public assistance to track him down.
Business owner and Narre Warren father of one Colin Bakof told the News (8 June) he had been forced to refinance his business following the thefts and deceptions, which total more than $100,000.
Mr Harris was remanded in custody and was to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 14 September for a committal mention.
