Fired up to serve

THE Narre Warren Fire Brigade held its recruitment information day recently and attracted 12 potential members.
The event, held at the fire station in Fullard Road, started off with a welcome from brigade Captain Noel Collins, followed by an introduction of current CFA members that helped run the information day.
Those in attendance learned about the history of the Country Fire Authority and the Narre Warren Fire Brigade and were given an insight into how busy the brigade is and the number and types of jobs attended each year.
All 12 applicants who attended the information day signed up to become new members of the brigade and will now be required to complete the recruit training course.
The influx followed a recent media campaign to attract new volunteers.
A total of 25 applications for membership were received and a number of these were passed onto other local brigades including Berwick and Narre Warren North because the applicants lived outside the brigade boundary.
Potential volunteers also heard about training requirements and expectations, time commitments and attendance at the brigade, and community needs and expectations including education programs.
Following the presentation, all applicants were treated to tea, coffee and scones and had the opportunity to tour the station, have a look over the vehicles as well and have a talk with brigade members.
