Crawlers take hike

FOUR City of Casey workers will be hoping their boots are made for walking when they set off on a 100km charity walk next week.
The Casey Crawlers will take to the starting line of the Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge hoping that they will better last year’s effort of 21 hours and six minutes.
The team, comsisting of Michael Jansen, David Richardson, Adam Taylor and Warren Smith, is made up of members of Casey’s environmental department.
Mr Jansen said the team had done a fair amount of training in preparation for the 100km walk.
But they had done nothing that would compare with the event itself.
“We have been training after work and on weekends. We often walk on the actual track being used,” Mr Jansen said.
Teams are made up of four people who have 48 hours to complete the walk.
While the men enjoy the physical benefits that come from the event, another major motivation for finishing is being able to help those less fortunate throughout the world.
“We were targeting $2000 and we have actually already reached that, which is great,” Mr Jansen said.
Work colleagues, corporate sponsorship along with family and friends had all helped the team reach their goal, he said.
Money raised by the Casey Crawlers and the other 600 plus teams competing in the walk will go toward Oxfam’s bid to create a fair world and help the many underprivileged communities in society.
