THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Samoan Choir recently performed at the 2006 Annual Premier’s Multicultural Awards as part of Commonwealth Games festivities.
The Narre Warren-based group was selected to perform by George Lek-akas, the chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission.
The 80 voices of the mixed choir assembled for their performance in front of a capacity crowd at Crown Casino last month.
Prior to the gala performance, local politicians and Casey Councillors attended a special choir rehearsal at the Narre Warren church.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne, whose electorate encompasses the Pakenham stake (Diocese), attended the choir rehearsal and commented afterwards that the performers were very professional and he greatly enjoyed the evening.
Casey’s deputy mayor Rob Wilson and Councillor Wayne Smith also attended the rehearsal.
Mr Byrne also met with church leaders and Murray Lobley and Pam Mam-ouney, of the City of Greater Dandenong Interfaith Network.
