Cranbourne strikes top form

CRANBOURNE Bowling Club put in a strong performance to outplay Vermont South to the tune of 20 shots overall in Metro Pennant Bowls at the weekend.
Cranbourne won well on three rinks and was narrowly beaten on the fourth.
Lyn Quigg’s rink showed the way with a powerful performance to win by 11 shots and Brian Gay’s rink bounced back to win by six shots after some disappointing performances.
Scores: Cranbourne 114 d Vermont South 94. L. Quigg 35-24, B. Gay 29-23, R. Lyfield 21-25, A. Mickle 29-22.
Cranbourne (2) travelled to Pakenham confident of a good showing, but the locals were too strong and took the points, winning overall by 17 shots.
Cranbourne had tight matches on three rinks but won only one, that of the consistent Wal Ballard’s rink by two shots.
Scores: Cranbourne 81 lost to Pakenham 98. W. Ballard 23-21, G. Imeson 21-23, S. Burnett 17-30, R. Travica 20-24.
Cranbourne (3) suffered its second loss for the season when a strong Clayton side proved too strong to win overall by 36 shots.
Cranbourne won only one rink, that of Andrew Brock by seven shots. Cranbourne still holds top position from Clayton, but will need to keep winning.

Cranbourne (4) had an entertaining match against Narre Warren, but fell 10 shots short on the overall scoreboard. The rink of Laurie Stephens was again in good touch to be the only winners and took the club award with a 21-shot win.
Scores: Cranbourne 84 lost to Narre Warren 94. L. Stephens 35-14, R. Shields 18-19, S. Raiti 16-28, J. MacInnes 15-33.
Cranbourne (5) provided some good news for the Cranbourne supporters when they outbowled Mulgrave Country Club by 19 shots and retained top position on the ladder.
Cranbourne won well on two rinks with Keith Davies and Bill Plumbe skipping their teams to win by 15 and five shots respectively.

Cranbourne (6) was well beaten at home by a strong Clayton side with a margin of 34 shots.
Cranbourne won only one rink, that of skip Sten Bjerking by one shot. New member Alan Cook was thrilled to be in a winning team for his first pennant match and performed very well.

Cranbourne (1) continued its good form to completely outbowl Hampton by 30 shots overall. Cranbourne won three rinks and the teams of Lois Hine and Thelma Lennon struck top form for big wins.
Scores: Cranbourne 107 d Hampton 77. L. Hine 33-13, S. Venville 24-20, T. Lennon 30-15, V. Bonney 20-29.
Cranbourne (2) was very pleased to come home from Willow Lodge with an excellent win overall by 39 shots. Isabel Smith’s rink was outstanding with a 32-shot win to lead the way with Cranbourne winning three of the four rinks.
