Making light of Christmas

THE Christmas spirit is nice and bright for the Berwick residents living on Homestead Road.
The quiet suburban street has been lit up with hundreds of Christmas lights courtesy of Debbie Meredith, her husband Nigel Fitton and his daughter Casey.
The family has been hard at work for the past few months preparing each light sequence and ensuring the whole show is coordinated.
Debbie flicked on the switch for the first time earlier this week and the droves of people have started to roll up each night and admire the light-show.
“We have been doing it for about four years now,” Debbie said.
She said the preparation that goes into each display was a time consuming task.
However, seeing a smile on so many faces far outweighs any time spent fiddling with tangled electrical cords and replacing broken globes.
“We get so many people through. We get bus-loads of people who stop on tours.
“We even have kids who give us gifts and cards just to say thanks for what we have done,” Debbie said.
The display is all part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Wish Upon a Christmas Light charity event.
Visitors to the house at 80 Homestead Road can vote for the Berwick house as their favourite Christmas display by texting 544 846 to 1977 6655. The show starts at about 8.30pm and concludes at midnight every night.
Money raised from the nationwide competition goes towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation charity.
