Narre hits back and wins

NARRE Warren’s Turf 3 side recovered from trouble to bowl out Lyndale for victory in the one-day game at Sweeney Reserve at the weekend.

Narre Warren hosted Lyndale in a one-day game and was asked to bat. The innings got off to a good start and Bernie Sizer (24) and Dwayne Thomson (40) put together a great partnership after that to set Narre Warren up for a good score. But, after losing the second wicket, Narre steadily lost more and was dismissed for 140 in the 39th over. Narre Warren had Lyndale in trouble early and kept up the pressure all day to dismiss Lyndale for 123. Wicket takers for Narre Warren were Glen Clark (3/16), Bryce Millar (2/17) and Travis Brinkman (2/43).

Narre Warren hosted St Mary’s and opted to field, having St Mary’s 3/54 at drinks. Steady wickets fell after drinks for St Mary’s to finish 9/130. Narre’s innings started indifferently and the score was 4/47 at drinks. Steady wickets fell after the break, which ensured an exciting finish, Narre winning in the last over with one wicket in hand. Best of the batsmen were Craig Caarels (61 not out) and Dean Martin (25).

Narre played Fountain Gate in a one-day game and Fountain Gate, which decided to bat first, was all out for 75. Best of the bowlers were Roy Huke (4/15), Mick van Dam (3/17) and Vic Bradshaw (2/0). Narre Warren easily passed the score and finished 4/95 off 17 overs with Darren Allen 30 not out.

Narre Warren won the toss and batted and Steven Kidd (79 not out) and Sean Perera (20) started well. However Narre slumped to be 8/107, finally finishing with 142 to defend. Narre Warren’s bowlers struggled, only two wickets falling before Coomoora reached the target in the 21st over. Best of the bowlers were Steven Kidd (1/21) and Danny Gajdos (1/38).

Narre Warren elected to bat against Silverton and steadied after losing an early wicket to finish all out for 149 off 36 overs, thanks largely to a 50-run partnership between Glenn Wilson (51) and Anthony Folino (24). Silverton wickets fell steadily to the Narre bowlers and Silverton was all out for 56 in the 21st over.
Excellent bowling performances by Glenn Wilson (3/24), Anthony Folino (2/19) and Chris Morse (4/3). The win kept Narre’s finals hopes alive.

Narre Warren was chasing 112 on the second day and was 1/2 at the start of the day. A good partnership between Ryan Misquith (17) and Mark Blanco (38) put Narre in a winning position. Narre Warren passed the required score with only three wickets down, going on to make 8/264 with Trent Anderson scoring 39, Matt Darvell 34 and Brett Milner a fine 50 not out.

Chasing Fountain Gate’s score of 87, Narre Warren began well. Ben Carter (18) and Shannon Marrell (13) got a good start before Fountain Gate fought back to have Narre 4/58. However Nathan King and James Giertz shared a 58-run stand before both retired. Jack Spreckley and Anthony Jayalath followed suit and Narre Warren finished 5/197.

Narre Warren resumed 0/5, having an opening partnership of 48 between Mitchell Arter and Braden King (25). The middle order continued to bat well, Kristopher Mertz (nine), Jarryd Straker (12) and Dylan Henry (20 not out) doing well before King resumed his innings to reach 32 not out. Narre Warren won by 92 runs and in the process made its highest score for the season.

Playing Berwick and needing 107 to win, Narre lost wickets quickly with David Santalucia holding the batting together with a patient 18. A last-wicket stand of 26 by Regan Todd (13) and Eshan Pieris showed character but Narre Warren fell short by 18 runs. Berwick decided to bat again and at close of play was 4/28. Pieris took 2/2.
