Slump costs Cranbourne victory

CRANBOURNE’S Turf One cricket team started well, reaching 2/100 thanks to fine batting from Jason Hameeteman (47) and captain Ross Woodall (49) before slumping to 7/137.
Shane Murdoch was left with the tail to show some fight, reaching 49 before being caught with Cranbourne’s 192 falling well short of Springvale South’s 351.

After resuming with Narre Warren two wickets down, Cranbourne got the best possible start with Shaun Petrie clean bowling a batsman on the first ball of the day.
Jesse Fitzgerald then took a wicket to have the opposition in trouble at 4/17.
Some stubborn resistance ensued, but Cam Mills’ introduction to the attack changed the game as he took 4/13 off 14.3 overs.
Clint Ayres starred in the field taking four catches with Cranbourne 133 defeating Narre Warren 85.

In a tight battle, Cranbourne was always in a position to win thanks to captain Chris George (49) and young Ashley Murtagh (46).
Cranbourne lost quick wickets in the lower order but the 41 needed to win still seemed gettable until Shane Krings was caught on the fence for a determined 24, with Narre Warren 220 beating Cranbourne 208.

Brad Twyford and Matthew Weir opened the bowling and took two wickets each, but the star was Nick Kelly, who claimed 4/28 with his left arm spin against Silverton.

Stephen Krings (21 not out) and Kelly (14 not out) were on the pitch for the winning runs, with Cranbourne 4/133 defeating Silverton 118.

Cranbourne found the going tough chasing a small score.
Opener Cam Petrie made a controlled 32, but the star of the day was Matthew Weller (70 not out), hitting five sixes at Casey Fields and almost single-handedly winning the game.
Number 11 batsman Nathan Lambden was there with 28 not out to help Weller clinch the game, with an unbroken partnership of 88 for the last wicket, with Cranbourne 9/189 defeating Narre North 9/105.

Defending 120, Cranbourne started badly in the field with Springvale South’s second wicket falling at 115, but then Thomas Nuzzaco came on to bowl.
Nuzzaco posted the superb figures of 5/10 off six overs, including three catches off his own bowling, however Springvale South ended on 6/138.
