United ‘escapes’ with a draw

ENDEAVOUR United Soccer Club seniors played away at Ronald Reserve in Morwell on Saturday and escaped with a thrilling 1-1 draw.
However the State League three, south east match against Morwell Pegasus proved to be a closely contested match.
The game started fiercely, both teams working hard to gain possession.
Early in the first half, disaster struck United’s resolve with a controversial free kick to Morwell that resulted in a goal.
Morwell persisted with its classic five-man defensive line, but United did not slow down, despite going in at half-time trailing by a goal.
United coach Carlos Retre revved up the team and it came out with all guns blazing.
Morwell’s defenders were pegged into their half for long periods, cross after cross coming into their penalty area.
United finally scored when Ted Ithier lashed the ball past a mass of Morwell defenders into the net.
The 1-1 score was the final result of the heart-stopping match.
The seniors sit in fourth position of the state league three ladder.
This Saturday, United clashes with Nunawading City at Reema Reserve in Stacey Court, Endeavour Hills.
The reserves kick off at 1pm.

@BT Sub Sport News:RESERVES

United started in competitive fashion, but looked completely different to the team that excelled over Fitzroy last week.
Morwell reserves continued in the way of its seniors with the defensive backline in full swing.
It continued to push forward looking for that elusive first goal prior to half-time and got it, due to lack of communication and bad luck to Endeavour United.
After an uninspiring first half from both sides, Endeavour opened the second half hoping for a quick goal and a way back into the game, but again Morwell scored and was able to keep Endeavour at bay.
Endeavour came out of the ordeal with two goals scored by forward Daniel Veljovic.
Scores: Morwell 3 d Endeavour United 2.
