Van Dam maiden century not enough for Narre

NARRE Warren’s Turf Three team fell just short of home team Dandenong West, which won the toss on day one and batted to finish on 9/314.
Facing a chase of around four runs an over, Narre Warren took to the challenge on a similar wicket with gusto.
However, the loss of wickets late in the chase proved costly, the team falling 8 runs short to be all out for 306.
Shaun Van Dam made a superb 105, his maiden turf century.
He had great support from Mick Dennis with 82, Duane Hughes (26), Ben Charles (21) and Steve Woodward (21 not out), along with 14-year-old Nathan King, who showed plenty of patience with 18.

Resuming play at 2/11 and chasing Cranbourne’s 133, Narre Warren got off to a bad start, losing wickets quickly.
Steve Vanette stayed at the crease for a time to top score on 25, with the only two other bats scoring double figures being Colin Perumal (20) and Paul McMahon (15).
The team fell 48 runs short in a game that was there to take.

Defending 220 against the unbeaten Cranbourne at Casey Fields, Narre Warren got the points, rolling the opposition for 208 in an entertaining affair.
At 2/90 off 27 overs Cranbourne was seemingly cruising towards victory before Matt Clarke turned the game on its head by taking 3/12 in the space of five overs, finishing with the figures of 3/19 off seven overs.
Narre Warren was on top for most of the remaining overs until a spirited last-wicket stand of 28 put the outcome on a knife’s edge.
When the final wicket fell, Cranbourne was 12 runs short of Narre Warren’s total.
Gareth Rees backed up his seven runs with the bowling figures of 4/56 from 18 overs and Wayne Martin snared 3/56 from 13 overs.

Playing Hampton Park away, Narre Warren was chasing 135.
After resuming play at 1/23, Narre Warren finished on 5/163, with John Easton 65 not out and Peter West scoring 23.
The team thanked Travis Johnson for subbing and fielding very well.

Resuming at 1/69 in reply to Fountain Gate’s 45, Narre Warren lost a couple of early wickets.
Chris Edwards (42) and Nathan Prosser (33) put together a fine partnership, highlighted by some outstanding running between wickets.
Narre Warren finished at 9/210.
Fountain Gate went in to bat for eight overs, scoring 4/38.
Matthew Clarke was again among the wickets, claiming another two for a total of eight for the match.
The highlight was an outstanding catch by 10-year-old Zach Allen, who was fielding for an absent player.

Defending 4/219, Narre Warren bowled well to keep Berwick to 8/144 and win by 75 runs.
The best of the bowlers were John Mentiplay (2/16), Brayden King (2/14), Jack Spreckley (1/14) and Mitchell Arter (1/9).

Defending 108, Narre Warren had Berwick in all sorts of trouble when play resumed at 4/15.
Starting the second day as it finished the first, Narre Warren removed the last six batsmen for 19 runs with Jacob Waller taking 5/5 for the match, Luke Clarke 2/1 and Jamayne Vanculenburg 2/6.
In its second dig Narre Warren poor batting left Narre Warren shaky at 6/26, but thanks to some beautiful defensive work by Andrew Cook, the team crawled to 47 all out at the close.

Chasing 107 and resuming at 0/1 on a slow ground, Narre Warren set itself to bat for 40 overs regardless of the score.
Some good bowling and fielding from Berwick made Narre Warren concentrate for the full innings, reaching the target with four overs to spare and without the loss of a wicket.

After making 162 on day one, Narre Warren bowled well and fielded brilliantly to roll Narre North for 56.
The best bowlers were Jesse Muzzolini (0/6 off four overs), Tom Spreckley (2/4 off two) and Travis Johnston (2/5 off four).

Hayden Stagg made 38 not out, Chamara Liyannarachi 25 not out and Kumar Akarowitha 22.

Playing Narre Warren Grey, Black won the toss and batted.
After 24 overs Black had made 87 runs, with Cameron Marshall 7 not out, Cameron Fernando 9 not out and Nathan DeSilva 13 not out.
Captained by Damien Garnage, Grey did a great job in the field with only 10 players.
The bowlers performed well, supported by the fielders with a couple of great catches taken and brilliant run outs.
In the reply, Grey came close to the target, but fell five runs short on 82.
Best of the Black bowlers were Callum Sigaras (0/0 from two overs), Hamish West (0/2 off two) and Joshua West (2/5 off two).
