CASEY Council will investigate ways to cap unit developments in individual streets.
The decision was made at last week’s council meeting following councillor Steve Beardon’s notice of motion.
Casey will work alongside the State Government at looking into ways in which the two bodies can introduce, or use existing, measures to stop developers buying several sites in the one street and building units.
Cr Beardon said many residents were concerned their streets were losing their original character and feel as several units on the one property went up.
“There needs to be some sort of limit placed on developments in each street,” Cr Beardon said.
Councillor Rob Wilson was against the proposal, saying the municipality needed a mixture of housing options including big blocks, normal-sized properties, units and flats.
“There needs to be a range of options for people to look at in reference to buying property,” Cr Wilson said.
Officers will prepare a report that will be provided to the council early next year.
