Murder charge

POLICE investigating the 18-year-old cold case killing of an Endeavour Hills teacher have charged a man with murder.
Geoffrey Engers was shot several times while in the driveway of his Endeavour Hills home on 15 December 1989.
Homicide Squad detectives arrested 46 year-old Cheltenham man Necdet Karakas in South Melbourne at 8.15pm last Thursday, 26 June, and took him to the St Kilda Road police complex where he was interviewed and later charged.
Police remanded Mr Karakas in custody and he appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 27 June, where he was ordered to attend a committal mention on 31 October.
