BRENTWOOD Park Primary School students are energetically back-flipping and high-kicking their way to the Aerobic National Championships in Brisbane this Friday.
The 12 students from grades four, five and six at the Berwick school wowed judges at the Victorian Aerobics Championships earlier this year and won their way through to the national event.
The Adorable Ladybugs team will dance up a storm in the open A team section and the Dancing Dragonflies will be doing their best to impress in the Dance Aerobics category.
Aerobics coordinator Jo-anne Pearson said both teams have been practising their moves to up-beat music during recess and lunchtime to ensure each performer is ready to go in Brisbane.
“The teams are working extremely hard to perfect their routines and are very energised and excited about the competition,” Ms Pearson said.
Local community groups and the school council have made the journey smoother for the aerobics teams by helping the fundraising efforts and covering some travel expenses.
Ms Pearson said participation in aerobics helped promote teamwork, strength, flexibility, coordination and performance skills among the students.
