IT WAS a case of five, four, three, two, one, blast off! for grade five students of Hillcrest Christian College on Friday, August 12, as they launched their handmade rockets high into the midday sky.
The rockets, pieced together using soft drink bottles, pieces of cardboard and sticky tape were sent hurtling into the air through the use of pressure produced by an air compressor attached to the rear of the rockets.
Teacher Craig Sheppard led the students in their task as part of their curriculum for term three.
The students were stunned when Mr Sheppard produced his own finely crafted rocket for launch, which soared to an impressive 30 metres into the sky.
Mr Sheppard said the students had a keen interest in flight.
He said that he thought the launch of their own rockets would “bring back the fun in discovery” for students.
