THE City of Casey is fast becoming a boom town with more than $500 million of major commercial projects announced recently.
Casey Main Street is the latest in a long line of exciting developments earmarked for the region.
The $300 million plan, revealed last weekend, will result in 5.1 hectares of land adjacent to the Fountain Gate Shopping Centre being transformed into a retail, civic and community lifestyle and leisure precinct.
Casey Main Street follows hot on the heels of the $90 million Casey Towers development, a $200 million extension of Westfield Fountain Gate and a 128-room world-class Chifley Hotel in Doveton.
The Main Street development will give Casey residents a plush new community library, council headquarters and a multi-use arts facility.
The expansion will comprise four separate parcels of land with extensive car parking space also included.
Some of Australia’s leading developers are expected to lodge tenders for the project.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said up to 25,000 square metres of retail floor space would be made available.
“This large shopping area will be complemented by the construction of a modern and architecturally striking building,” Cr Halsall said.
The Casey Towers project is also gathering steam.
The Narre Warren development will consist of 140 four-star hotel rooms, restaurants, office suites, hotel bars, a gymnasium and serviced apartments.
Casey Towers will be complemented by a new Chifley property being built behind the Freeway Sports Centre in Doveton.
The development is set to open later this year.
Westfield Fountain Gate is also spending up big, with more than 110 new stores set to be built this year.
Casey Council approved Westfield’s application, which will result in the shopping centre grow to 383 stores and an extra 1200 car parking spaces once finished, in December.
A major department store will also form part of the project.
