STUDENTS at Narre Warren P12 school were given the opportunity to shine last week when they graduated from a personal development program.
Kyra Seddon of Hope Generation Church in Endeavour Hills oversaw the Shine program that was first started in 1997 by Hillsong Christian Church in Sydney.
Ms Seddon said the program was designed to promote selfesteem and a sense of self worth in young women.
“I was trained at the end of last year to run the program down here in Melbourne.
“The intent of Shine is to create an environment where girls can discover for themselves that they are valuable, created one of a kind, able to affect the course of their own life and have a purpose and a significance,” she said.
Ms Seddon said Shine consisted of a foundational personal development program integrating a practical, inspirational and valuesforming approach.
“The program is run over an eightweek timeframe and students cover a different topic each week.
“The girls were able to develop values and principles which will become the foundation for them making great decisions and directly impact their future,” she said.
The students learnt about skincare, makeup, hair care and nail care, while discussing issues such as willpower, feelings, peer pressure, problem solving, etiquette and respect.
Ms Seddon said the program also helped young students realise their hopes and dreams and gave them the confidence to achieve their goals.
“Shine is such a great program,” she said.
“My dream is to see it running in every high school in the city of Casey.
“So often we are trying to fix problems once they have already developed, my desire is that Shine would be something that not only aids in fixing problems that the girls face, but would also prevent issues before they become a real problem.
“I want to see young girls Shine in this city, living out their lives with their heads high knowing that they are beautiful, valuable and have something to give to the world,” she said.
