CASEY residents are being urged to have their say on the future of sport in their local area.
The opportunity is being extended after the release of the draft sports facilities plan that provides a comprehensive assessment of the current and future provision of sports facilities throughout Casey.
The draft plan is the first component of the draft leisure facilities and development plan with the second component, the draft sports development plan, due to be ready for council consideration in early 2008.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the plan, which is now on public display, would assist with a citywide approach to planning, setting priorities and developing sporting facilities and programs in Casey.
“The draft sports facilities plan is an important and exciting plan that will drive the future direction of sporting facilities in the City of Casey,” she said.
“Residents now have the opportunity to make a submission on the plan, and I invite them to do so.”
The plan considers all sports but a greater emphasis has been placed on high participation sports within the city including Australian Rules football, baseball, BMX racing, gymnastics, lawn bowls, rugby league/union, gridiron, softball, athletics, basketball, cricket, hockey, netball, soccer and tennis.
Some of the key proposals of the draft sports facilities plan include:
• The development of a new regional level athletics complex at Casey Fields.
• The development of new playing fields for cricket, football and soccer.
• The development of new municipal BMX racing circuit, gymnastics and baseball facilities.
• The development of a regional level soccer complex at Casey Fields.
The draft sports facilities plan is available for viewing on council’s website at www.casey.vic.gov.au and can also be inspected at Casey customer service centres.
Comments on the plan should be provided by no later than Thursday 31 January 2008.
