A BERWICK church is on the lookout for a little romance, adventure and mystery.
The Salvation Army Church is collecting second-hand books from all genres for a giant book sale early next year.
Sale organisers hope to collect more than 5000 books, and have called on locals to clean out their bookshelves and donate unwanted novels.
All proceeds from the inaugural sale will be sent to the Bushfire Orphanage in Southern Uganda, to buy a three-phase generator because the orphanage has no electricity.
Narre Warren resident John O’Shea was organising the sale with wife Julie Speirs.
The couple travelled to Uganda in 2004, after Ms Speirs completed a Christian counselling course.
The church has since been a big supporter of the orphanage, sending teddy bears, pencil cases, children’s underwear and other essentials.
Mr O’Shea said they hoped to raise $8500 in US dollars from the sale, and would use all the cash to buy the generator.
He said they were accepting all kinds of second-hand books, for children and adults.
People wishing to donate can leave books in a green bin at the church, on the corner of Parkhill Drive and Ernst Wanke Road, Berwick any morning of the week.
They may, alternatively, call John O’Shea on 0422 642 962 to arrange a pick-up.
