LOCAL residents can clear their house of unwanted chemicals during a Detox Your Home event next month.
The free household chemical disposal service will be held from 8am to 4pm on Saturday, 13 October at Casey Council’s Works Depot, Vesper Drive, Narre Warren.
Casey’s manager of engineering and environmental services David Richardson said the day provided an ideal opportunity to clean out the laundry, shed, garage and cleaning cupboards and bring your old paint, oil, pesticides, herbicides, batteries, cleaning products and gas cylinders to safely dispose of them.
“Sustainability Victoria will ensure the products are treated, then either recycled or disposed of safely, which is better for our environment and our health than if these products remained at home or were poured down the drain and into our water ways,” Mr Richardson said.
The types of products to bring include:
· Car and all types of household batteries (such as alkaline, mobile phone,
rechargeable, mercury, nickel cadium, watch batteries, etc)
· Gas bottles (barbecue cylinders and fire extinguishers)
· Paint (including spray cans)
· Motor oil (including motor oil containers)
· Fluorescent lighting tubes.
The service will operate from the City of Casey Works Depot, Vesper Drive, Narre Warren, from 8am to 4pm on Saturday, 13 October.
