CASEY Fields has been rocking through the first three rounds of Victorian Football League action as spectators flock to the region’s premier sporting facility to follow the fortunes of the Casey Scorpions.
A crowd of 2500 watched a pulsating draw between the Scorpions and Williamstown on Sunday following similarly strong attendances in rounds one and two.
The club has also seen improvement in its membership with almost 300 paid-up supporters this year compared to 250 in 2006.
Casey Scorpions general manager Brian Woodman has been pleased with the off-field results so far and believes the future is bright for his club.
“It’s encouraging all the time, getting new people to the club and to games, and also coming to talk to us about how pleased they are that this level of footy is being played in the area,” he said.
“The future is still ahead of us.
“We still have cows and open paddocks around our ground whereas in the next five to 10 years they will become houses with families.”
A range of initiatives will be used throughout the season to continue to attract audiences, and it began on the weekend with an AusKick display at half-time.
The two best players during the match received Scorpions jumpers.
“Obviously, we are keen to develop the crowds, but at the moment we are restricted a bit by local laws as far as signage and advertising,” Woodman said.
“The other big factor in us being successful – and this is a real challenge – is to build a successful footy team in this competition.”
The Scorpions offers a range of membership packages for families, adults and children, which can be viewed on the Scorpions’ website at www.scorpions.com.au.
