DEDICATION of Rotary Club of Narre Warren members was given as the reason for the success of the Casey gunfire breakfast and the Berwick Highland Games.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said club charter member, past president, Paul Harris Fellow, and Past District Governor Harry Oakes of King Island started the breakfast 25 years ago as a modest get-together after the dawn service.
“People arrive at 4.30am to prepare the breakfast to make it a wonderful community occasion.”
The mayor hosted a reception to thank the club for running the Berwick Highland Games for more than 20 years and the gunfire breakfast for 25 years.
Club president Ian Pickering said members loved to be involved in both community events.
He also said that the Anzac Day tradition was growing in the district because of a positive attitude to soldiers.
“When you go to the highland games you will experience the presentation of massed bands and this can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
“The massed bands are a wonderful spectacle,” he said.
