Families will honour dead

THE families of the Narre Warren CFA members killed during the Ash Wednesday fires will gather at a memorial site in Upper Beaconsfield this Saturday.
It will be 25 years to the day that six members of the local crew died after they were engulfed in flames while battling the blaze in St Georges Road.
Community leaders will also head to a memorial at the corner of Princes Hwy and Magid Drive, Narre Warren to pay their respects.
The wider CFA community has vowed to never forget those who perished on 16 February, 1983 and local residents are encouraged to also remember the efforts of those who died. Several parts of Victoria suffered major fire damage on Ash Wednesday with the CFA involved in fighting up to 200 fires across the state.
CFA records indicate 47 people died in Victoria with 20 of those deaths occurring in the Upper Beaconsfield area.
Hundreds more were burnt and injured throughout the state.
