CASEY’S mobile youth centre has got the thumbs up from a Victorian council which is looking at a similar initiative.
The bus, known as The Seasonal Vibe, is a mobile youth information centre that comes complete with music, games and two youth officers to offer support to youth in need.
The bus recently visited Moyne Shire, which is looking at starting up a similar service in its region.
Casey youth and family services manager Lee McIntosh said the bus put young people in touch with services or the support they might need.
“Casey’s mobile youth service is a leading edge information service for young people, particularly for those in more isolated communities,” Ms McIntosh said.
She said last year about 11,000 young people visited the Vibe.
Its reputation has now attracted interest from other local government areas and agencies interested in a dynamic way to reach young people in their local towns or at events.
Moyne Shire, which is in Victoria’s south west around Port Fairy, is conducting a feasibility study for a mobile youth information centre for its region.
“The feedback we have from Moyne Shire is they were extremely impressed with Casey’s Seasonal Vibe, particularly the layout of information and activities and the level of recognition and support it receives from the community,” Ms McIntosh said.
The Seasonal Vibe will be offering after school activities throughout the term and regularly appears at local community events across Casey.
