SATURDAY brought another sun-drenched afternoon of Dandenong District Cricket Association play and drastic contrasts between the Turf One and Turf Two competitions.
While 210 was the best a Turf One team could muster, courtesy of defending champion Springvale South, four scores surpassed that in Turf Two.
Three of those clubs ended within touching distance of 300, while HSD cantered past the triple-century mark against Hampton Park.

Cranbourne v Berwick

One week after mercurial Berwick captain-coach Alex Roberts completed his torching of Doveton, former skipper Ash Henry displayed similar destructiveness against Cranbourne.
Leg-spinning Henry tore through the Eagles line-up to the tune of 6/11 from 13 overs to help dismiss them for just 104 in an agonising 51-over stay at Casey Fields.
Cranbourne captain-coach Ross Woodall’s 20 was the best of a bad bunch.
In response, the Bears lost two early wickets, but Roberts (38 not-out after claiming 2/29) and Gavan Wills (29 not-out) carried the score to 2/84 at stumps.
Berwick will push for an outright result when the game resumes at the weekend.

@BT Sub Sport News:Doveton v North Dandenong

Doveton and North Dandenong are locked in a dogfight after day one of their contest at Robinson Reserve on Saturday.
A balanced bowling performance by the Doves prevented the maroon and blacks from posting a commanding total.
Nathan Wilson (2/30) and Ryan McMurray (2/29) restricted North Dandenong to 3/49, but Shane Leonard (36) and captain Adrian Baltruschaitis (44) produced an innings-saving 69-run alliance.
Kevin Leonard (29) and David Bell (25) also contributed as North Dandenong managed 9/204.
However, it is a far-from-intimidating run chase for Doveton, who also received great service from Ryan Hendy (3/52) and captain-coach Glen Lothian (2/43).

@BT Sub Sport News:Narre Warren v Parkfield

Parkfield’s batsmen never really got going against Narre Warren at Sweeney Reserve on the weekend, as the depth of the Magpies bowling stocks again shone through.
Opener Brad Houghton (56) was the only Bears batsman to look comfortable, with Dave Wheeler (3/44), Chris Jarrett (2/14), Shane Simpson (2/19) and Dwayne Scott (2/29) maintaining an impeccable line and length throughout the day.
Daniel Ferguson joined Houghton at 6/83 and the pair combined for a promising partnership of 49 runs before falling to Wheeler in quick succession.
From there, the Bears crashed to be all out for 144.
Magpie openers Wendell Perumal and Mathew Darvell managed to negotiate an awkward spell of 11 overs before stumps on day one, steering their side to 0/23.

St Brigid’s-St Louis v Fountain Gate

After picking up its first win of the season last week, Fountain Gate was brought back to earth by a torrid batting effort from St Brigid’s-St Louis at Bondi Oval on Saturday.
St Brigid’s-St Louis fell to 5/136, but Paul Dunn produced a magnificent 96 and had plenty of support from lower-order batsmen Tom Stillman (34) and Grant Ansalde (28) to lift their team to 286.
Captain-coach Cameron Knight (3/58) led Fountain Gate’s bowling, with Cory Wilson (2/54) and Daniel Bartlett (2/84) also effective.
Fountain Gate openers Daniel Robinson (five not-out) and Luke Ross (four not-out) guided their club to 0/14 in the four remaining overs.

@BT Sub Sport News:Berwick v Hallam-Kalora Park

A blockbuster 202-run partnership between captain-coach Cory Booth and Steven Chapman delivered first-day honours to Hallam-Kalora Park over Berwick at Arch Brown Reserve on the weekend.
Nicholas Cox (16) was removed with the score on 42 to set the stage for the club’s two big stars.
Chapman (117) was the man finally out for Hallam-Kalora Park, but not before demolishing the Bear attack with Booth (115 not-out).
Gary Davidson then compiled an unbeaten 19 to help advance Hallam-Kalora Park to 2/274 from only 65 overs.
Sediq Shiryar (1/14) provided a crucial breakthrough to leave Berwick 1/30 at the end of play.

@BT Sub Sport News:Maranatha Methodist v Lyndale

Maranatha Methodist was put to the sword by Lyndale at Strathaird Reserve on Saturday.
Ciaron Connolly clobbered an undefeated 103 to inspire Lyndale that had fallen to 5/138 and 6/167, to a total of 9/271.
Captain-coach Rory Ingram and Graham Murray were next best with 31 apiece, but arguably the next most important innings behind Connolly came from number-eight bladesman Jeremy Vethecan (26).
Vethecan, who had managed just one run in three digs this season and Connolly shared 58 runs for the seventh wicket to kick-start the comeback.
Englishman Paul Goodchild (4/66) enjoyed his best afternoon with the leather for Maranatha Methodist to head the bowling charge.

@BT Sub Sport News:Hampton Park v HSD

Hampton Park became HSD’s latest whipping boy when the latter registered a monstrous 8/341 at Booth Reserve on the weekend.
After losing Robert Davies early, HSD exploded into action, with superb outings by Adam Semmens (73), Michael Davies (64), James van Elewoud (53 not out) and Paul Stockdale (48).
Several others were also useful with the willow, as the Redbacks endured a long day in the field.
Travis Lacey (2/48), Matthew Bartlett (2/51) and Tim Fathers (2/55) toiled hard for Hampton Park, but the Redbacks will be hard pressed to match HSD with the bat on Saturday.
