ELAINE White is again flying the Australian flag outside her Narre Warren South house.
The 72-year-old was left disenchanted after her flag was stolen from the front yard of her Cypress Hill Drive property on Australia Day.
Federal Labor MP Anthony Byrne read about Ms White’s plight in the Berwick News and was quick to organise a replacement flag.
“I was shocked and extremely disappointed to learn about Elaine’s flag being stolen on Australia Day,” Mr Byrne said.
“The Australian flag is our most important national symbol and there should be very serious penalties for anyone who does not treat our flag with the reverence and dignity it deserves,” the Holt MP said.
Ms White said she was thrilled with the new flag and had plans to erect a flag pole outside her house.
“I’m very pleased. It’s a lovely big flag,” she said.
Mr Byrne said Federal MPs are entitled to distribute Australian flags to various community orgainsations, schools and non-profit groups.
“I know Elaine’s strong patriotic spirit will see this new Australian flag displayed with pride at her home,” he said.
He said MPs can also present up to 50 Australian flags per year to local residents.
Desktop and hand-waver flags are also available.
