THE success of a Berwick charity garage sale last month has two local women hoping to recreate the success in Narre Warren this Saturday.
The News first highlighted the fund-raising efforts of the Berwick Church of Christ community last month as the group prepared to raise money for Ana, a young Indonesian woman whose arm was severely damaged in a fire when she was five.
Just under $800 was raised after members of the Casey community donated unwanted goods to be sold.
Organisers Gloria Hardy and Sylvia Gray are hoping for more donations for this Saturday’s event.
“We would still welcome donations of goods but not clothing as we have lots with not enough space to display it,” Ms Gray said.
“We would particularly like toys as those donated last time sold well.”
Ms Gray said they were hoping to raise $700 to finish paying for the second operation Ana had to fix her arm.
“(We) then want to be ready for the next operation which will probably be next year when we hope to bring her to Australia for surgery,” she said.
A chance meeting with Ms Hardy and Ms Gray in 2005 changed Ana’s life.
The women raised enough money to have Ana’s arm reconstructed but more surgery is required.
Financial donations will also be accepted on the day.
The garage sale will take place this Saturday 6 October from 8.30am at 6 Walton Court, Narre Warren. Goods and cash donations are wanted. For details call Sylvia Gray on 9705 0339.
