IN a thrilling contest, Hampton Park Bowls Club’s division seven team came from behind to defeat Fitzroy-Victoria at Ringwood on Saturday.
The Parkers (visitors) were in trouble at the halfway mark being some 13 shots behind the opposition who at this stage were playing with great confidence.
After the break, the Parkers resumed with more vigour and started to whittle their opponent’s lead down, eventually hitting the front.
The last few ends were very close but the Hampton Park side hung on to win by six shots overall (101-95).
On rink 11, Jos Van Hout, Fred McBrian, Paul Barna and skip Rob Woff were trailing early by 10 shots. In the second half they conceded only two ends to overhaul the opposition and win by 10 shots (29-19).
On rink12, losing the first six ends and the last five ends had Ray Leggett, Mark Paton, Keith Damon and skip Bob Nicol with their backs pressed hard against the wall in this one sided game (18-40).
On rink 13, Bob Meany, Greg Pentland, Bernie Bruggeman and skip Andrew Brandolin teamed well together and built on their lead throughout the day to win by 15 shots (28-13).
On rink 14, Ray Wood, Alan Wilcock, Allan March and skip Bill Webb saw their good lead disappear to be behind with two ends to go. A timely four on the second last end put them back in front enabling them to win by three shots (26-23).

Hampton Park played at Narre Warren and went down by 31 shots (72-103).
Gail Williams, Gwen Clough, Grace Hogan and skip Geri Graafsma got off to a rough start, but they fought back to force a draw (24-24).
In a very even game, Rhonda Diaper, Shirley Burnside, Ellen Smith and skip Heather Naismith held on to win by four shots (29-25).
Dot Carr, June Damon, Gail Wilcock and skip Mary Hose were no match for the strong opposition in their 22-shot loss (7-29).
The wheels fell off the wagon for Alan Wilcock, Helen Lambert, Ann Westwell and skip Christine Hendrie in the second half when they could only score singles (12-25).
Scores: Hampton Park 0-72 lost to Narre Warren 2-103.

Jim Westwell, Ray Wood, Christine Hendrie and skip Geoff Ladner held a tight rein on their lead to win by nine shots (22-13).
Keith McCarthy, Keith Damon, Andrew Brandolin and skip Neville Hendrie left it to the last few ends to hit the front and win by one shot (15-14).
