MERINDA Park Basketball Club is celebrating another banner year on the court after winning 10 premierships in the Cranbourne and District Basketball Association (CDBA) last week.
The achievements fell just short of the club’s best, which came in 1999 when Merinda Park claimed 12 pennants.
Merinda Park also maintained its streak of winning at least one flag a season since it was established in 1998.
Forty-six of the club’s 56 teams made it into the finals, with 21 progressing to grand finals.
Merinda Park president and CDBA vice-president Gorden Edwards was pleased with the club’s display.
“If we win it’s a bonus, if we make finals it’s a double bonus, and if we make a grand final it’s a triple bonus,” he said.
“There is no more enjoyment than watching kids start then building them up and seeing the improvement in them – it’s a real pleasure.”
Edwards said a major part of the club’s success was the tireless efforts of the committee, and in particular secretary Raelene Dorning.
Merinda Park looks set to have 56 sides again, with senior competition tipping off this week and the juniors returning on 6 October.
