NARRE South Lions juniors braved wet conditions on Tuesday night to take part in a clinic with Collingwood footballers Dane Swan and Danny Stanley at Strathaird Reserve.
The one-hour visit was organised through TAC Cup team the Dandenong Stingrays and was well received by all in attendance.
Narre South Lions president Peter Gajanovic was thrilled to welcome Swan and Stanley to the club.
“The kids get a buzz out of it and we moved most of our training sessions to fit in with the players,” he said.
“All the kids were excited regardless of whether they went for Collingwood. It’s terrific for the kids.”
The club is in its fifth year and is fielding 15 teams this season – a number that has gradually risen since beginning with just an under-nine side in 2004.
Narre South is also celebrating an upgrade to its lighting and has spoken to the Dandenong District Junior Football League about hosting Friday night matches this year.
The Lions have four under-nine teams this season – the most in the league – and are hoping to grow further in the coming years.
“We try and make the place as accommodating as possible for all players and all standards and provide an enjoyable atmosphere for kids to play footy,” Gajanovic said.
“We’re a friendly, family focused club and we have never said to any kid that they can’t come play.”
