BERWICK Cemetery Trust chairman Frank Tuck has commended the Rotary Club of Berwick for its work in restoring the old gates at the Inglis Road entrance.
Mr Tuck, with Rotary Club of Berwick president Terry Carmichael officially opened the gates on Thursday 11 January.
He said the work represented a major project for the club and for the cemetery.
“I also commend the club for its work over 43 years maintaining the cemetery grounds,” he said.
Mr Tuck said the work and restoration of the gates indicated respect for those in the cemetery and their families.
Mr Carmichael said he was proud of Rotary’s work in refurbishing the gates.
“You can go anywhere around Berwick and see some contribution made by the club over the years,” he said.
“But this is a special effort at the cemetery.
“Rotarians have been here to do maintenance every year for 43 years, but this is the first major project besides maintenance that we have completed at the cemetery.
“I thank the Rotarians directly involved in the restoration work,” Mr Carmichael said.
